Reasons
and Tips to Reduce Increased Uric Acid in the Body
High levels of uric acid
in the body can cause health problems such as arthritis. When our body is
unable to excrete the waste, it forms solid crystals in the joints called gout,
which causes an increase in uric acid in the body. To maintain your health, it
is very important to eat a balanced diet that contains all the essential
nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, good and healthy fatty acids,
vitamins and minerals. People with high blood uric acid levels find it
difficult to choose the right and healthy foods to include in their diet. So
here are some healthy food choices mentioned that can help you control uric
acid in the body.
Uric acid is a normal
body waste product. It is formed when chemicals called purines are broken down.
Purines are natural substances found in the body. They are also found in many
foods such as liver, shellfish and alcohol. They can also form in the body when
DNA breaks down. When purines break down into uric acid in the blood, the body
gets rid of it when you urinate or pass waste. But if your body makes too much
uric acid, or if your kidneys aren't working well, uric acid can build up in
the blood.
Uric acid levels can also
rise when you eat foods high in purines such as mushrooms, green peas, spinach,
broccoli, cabbage, sugary drinks, and red meat or take medications such as
diuretics, aspirin and niacin. Then uric acid crystals can form and accumulate
in the joints. It causes painful inflammation. This condition is called gout.
It can also lead to kidney stones. People who are overweight or obese are at
risk of high uric acid. In addition, kidney failure can impair kidney function.
This can result in improper filtration of waste products and therefore high
uric acid. Delaying treatment for an overdose can make its symptoms worse.
Other ways to help control high uric acid levels include:
Drink green tea, Green
tea is rich in catechin content, which is a powerful antioxidant. Catechin is
related to the formation of uric acid and thus is extremely helpful in reducing
the level of this acid. Consume fiber, to reduce the level of this acid,
include vegetables such as barley, whole grains, broccoli and pumpkin in the
diet. These types of foods are full of dietary fibers, which are very
beneficial in absorbing uric acid and removing it from the body. Vitamin C is
supportive, studies have shown that consuming five milligrams of vitamin C per
day can reduce the level of this acid in a short period of time. Orange or
sweet lemon juice is extremely helpful in providing you with the required
amount of vitamin C.
Excessive consumption of
water or liquids, Water is a natural cleansing fluid that flushes out toxins
from the body. Therefore, drink at least ten to twelve glasses of water daily.
Liquids are also beneficial because they help flush uric acid from the body
through excretion. But, remember to choose the right type of juice and liquid. Fruits
and tomatoes are the best, like vegetables, fruits are also extremely helpful
in getting rid of increased levels of this acid. Tomatoes are good for your
body and the high amount of vitamin C they contain helps in reducing uric acid
levels. Cucumber and carrot, they are good for health if you have high uric
acid levels in your body. Due to their high fiber content, they also help in
flushing out the uric acid content from the body.
